As the name suggests, its founders named the city after Aberdeen in Scotland. US Army Ordnance Museum Having a long history, this area of the country offers some of the earliest settlements and making a visit to Aberdeen very compelling for people with historical interests.

The U.S. army's massive Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) lies just south of Aberdeen, on Chesapeake Bay. It is a major research, development, and testing installation and site of the army ordnance center and school.

Visitors who wish to see a large collection of military combat vehicles, weapons and ammunition as well a artillery, should head for The US Army Ordnance Museum. Besides military items from the World Wars to the present day, items such as the Gatling Gun, a German V-2 Rocket and General Pershing's Locomobile is on view.
